Fostering Critical Thinking for Democratic Citizenship through European Collaboration

by EDvocacy

EDvocacy recently participated in the pilot run of the Blended Intensive Teacher Training (BIT) “Critical Thinking for Effective Democratic Citizens,” hosted by the Faculty of Education Sciences at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and supported by the Erasmus+ Teacher Academy SciLMi project.

The training brought together educators, researchers, and experts from across Europe to explore the integration of critical thinking and Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) into education. Through a combination of interactive workshops and collaborative dialogue, participants examined how media literacy, scientific reasoning, and democratic values can be effectively developed in classroom contexts.

This initiative aligns closely with EDvocacy’s mission to promote educational practices that empower students to become active, informed, and responsible citizens. It also highlights the value of cross-border collaboration in addressing shared challenges in teacher education and fostering innovation in pedagogy.

Engagements like this not only strengthen our capacity as an organization but also contribute to the broader effort of shaping inclusive and forward-looking educational systems across Europe.
